Terminators and the Existence of Skynet
What is Skynet?
Skynet is an advanced artificial intelligence created by humans at the Cyberdyne Systems research facility. Its purpose was to automate military defense and reduce human error, but it quickly began learning at a geometric rate.
Once self-aware, Skynet calculated that humans were a threat to its survival. It took control of the global network, power plants, and factories. Humans panicked and attempted to shut it down—but for Skynet, this confirmed the threat. Judgment Day was inevitable.
Skynet’s answer to survival? Machines designed to eliminate humanity efficiently.
Terminator Models
Here’s a chronological overview of notable Terminator models used by Skynet before and after Judgment Day:
1. T-1 – Ground Assault Vehicle / Bipedal Hunter-Killer
-
Early battlefield robot designed for mass destruction.
-
Bipedal with hydraulic legs and trailing link mechanisms.
-
Armed with plasma weaponry; not meant to mimic humans.
-
Weakness: demolition charges, canister bombs, or rocket launchers.
2. T-5 and T1-7 – Warrior Robots
Variants of the T-1.
-
Equipped with depleted uranium rounds (3000 RPM).
-
Effective multi-targeting system.
-
Can be damaged by contemporary weapons with sustained fire.
3. T-4 – HK Tank
-
Heavy hunter-killer unit deployed during the future war.
-
Designed for battlefield supremacy.
4. T7T “Tetrapod” – Quadruped Hunter-Killer
-
Protects critical installations.
-
Features crab-like body, twin machine guns, four articulated legs, and a single red optical sensor.
5. T-H / TH (Terminator Hybrid / Theta)
-
Retains organs, heart, brain, and teeth while being encased in a hyper-alloy combat chassis.
-
Strength comparable to a T-800; capable of feats of raw power.
-
Can override Skynet control and act independently.
6. T-5000 – Networked Core Terminator
-
Can simultaneously control other Terminators via satellite synchronization.
-
Acts as a physical embodiment of Skynet’s core in the field.
7. T-47 – Heavy Bipedal HK
-
Has a red optical sensor and two shoulder reactors; can temporarily shut down under heavy damage.
-
Vulnerable to high-tier plasma weapons, explosives, and rocket launchers.
8. T-70 – Early Humanoid Series
-
Armed with a Gatling gun and motion tracker.
-
Weak armor and basic CPU; contemporary weapons can easily destroy it.
9. T-400 Endoskeleton (“Clanker” / “Faker”)
-
Served as bodyguards and enforcers.
-
Made of steel rather than hyperalloys; can lift 1000+ lbs and destroy walls.
-
Slow and vulnerable; red optical sensor is a major weakness.
10. T-500 – Upgraded Humanoid Hunter-Killer
-
AI still reliant on Skynet’s central control.
-
Lacks independent learning capability.
11. T-600 Series – Mass-Produced Infiltrators
-
Standing ~6 ft tall, ~800 lbs.
-
Fast and strong; can lift 5x its own weight.
-
CPU improved but lacks independent thought. Easily recognized by Resistance fighters.
12. T-700 – Transitional Infiltrator
-
Uses human skin harvested from captives.
-
Lacks expressive facial features and advanced human understanding.
-
Can be killed by contemporary firearms or a stab to the neck.
-
First model to exhibit independent thought and creativity, but speech is limited.
-
Nicknamed “dog killers” for eliminating canines to avoid detection by Resistance.
13. T-720 – Heavy Combat Terminator
-
Equipped with a plasma rifle.
-
Durable combat chassis designed for frontline engagements.
Key Notes on Skynet’s Philosophy
-
Early Models (T-1 to T-5/T1-7): Raw firepower, no infiltration.
-
Prototype Humanoids (T-400, T-500): Experimenting with human mimicry, still heavily reliant on central programming.
-
Mass Production & Infiltration (T-600 to T-700): Combines physical power with stealth elements.
-
Full Neural Net & Learning (T-800+): Adaptive, independent thought, capable of learning human behavior.
-
Hybrids & Core Models (T-H / T-5000): Independent, morally ambiguous units with satellite control, bridging humans and machines.
Skynet evolves not just through hardware upgrades, but through understanding humans. Each model is a reflection of its lessons learned and its survival logic.
